A major television network was unable to bring to market or otherwise monetize a significant amount of their classic TV series, due to a lack of resources to prioritize older content over new TV series. Discovering what rights were available and what content, art and descriptive assets were in their archive was the first challenge. The network also needed a way to prioritize the effort to prepare assets for library content, as well as have a clear path to monetize this niche segment of content that traditionally performed well on physical media.
Allied Vaughn’s approach was threefold: 1) We deployed a human resource inside the network to work alongside the networks’ legal and asset management teams to discover available complete series with unencumbered music and distribution rights. “Daniel Boone: The Complete Series” will serve as the example in this instance. 2) We developed the required metadata file structure to be adapted for future requirements to maximize the value of their investment, and we used this approach across all the TV series assets from the network going forward. Allied Vaughn then took delivery of the discovered assets, preparing these for distribution on DVD. In consultation with the network, Allied Vaughn managed all aspects of the transcoding, authoring, special features, art and packaging, resulting in a collectible box set of the complete series. 3) Finally, through a pre-arranged licensing agreement, Allied Vaughn distributed the finished product for exclusive distribution to the retail marketplace, including Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com and all other e-commerce retail outlets.
Daniel Boone: The Complete Series” sold thousands of units and become one of Allied Vaughn’s top sellers, ranking in the top 75 out of ~10,000 licensed titles, and in the top 10 all-time best selling TV series.
